Your B2B marketing site is on WordPress with Elementor. Every time your developer updates a plugin, something breaks. Your HubSpot forms are embedded via shortcode and they load slowly. Your design team wants to add an interactive product demo section and it's going to take six weeks to make Elementor do what they need. Moving to a headless CMS with a custom Next.js frontend solves all three problems at once.
Why B2B Sites Outgrow WordPress
WordPress works well for content-heavy sites with standard page structures. B2B marketing sites tend to need more: interactive sections, deep HubSpot or Intercom integrations, personalised content for different audience segments, and fast performance for SEO. These requirements push WordPress to its limits and accumulate technical debt through plugins.
A headless CMS separates the content management from the frontend. Your Next.js frontend can integrate HubSpot forms natively, load interactively without plugin scripts, and perform at the level of a purpose-built web application, because it is one.
B2B-Specific Content Types
B2B marketing sites have content types that general page builders handle poorly:
- Case studies: structured fields for customer name, industry, challenge, solution, results, queryable for filtering by industry or use case
- Resource gating: content entries with a ''ated' 'lag that triggers a HubSpot form before the download link is shown
- Pricing pages: structured plan data (name, price, features list) that feeds both the pricing page and comparison tables
- Team and leadership: author content type used for blog posts, webinars, and About pages simultaneously
HubSpot and Intercom Integration
ContentGrid's webhook system connects to HubSpot and Intercom without custom middleware. When a new case study is published, a webhook can trigger a HubSpot workflow that notifies the sales team. When a new resource is added, Intercom can be updated with the resource URL for use in support conversations.
Your Next.js frontend loads HubSpot forms as React components, not iframes, which improves load performance and gives you full control over styling and validation.
Iteration Speed for Marketing Teams
- Marketing can add a new landing page for a campaign without waiting for a developer to create a page template
- A/B testing content variations using ContentGrid content environments and a feature flag system
- SEO metadata managed in the CMS, not hardcoded in the frontend
- Blog publishing with the AI writing tools built into ContentGrid's editor: draft, edit, and publish without switching tools
B2B companies that move to headless CMS report that the investment pays back in engineering time saved. Less time on plugin maintenance, less time on workarounds, more time shipping features that differentiate the product.
